Jack Eckerd, founder of the Eckerd drug chain, which was at one time the second largest drug chain in America, became a friend of Chuck Colson, former chief of staff to Richard Nixon, who spent time in jail, due to his involvement in Watergate.

Eckerd was sponsoring Colson for a series of meetings on prison reform. As they traveled together on several occasions, Colson told Eckerd of his newfound faith in Jesus Christ. ckerd also became a Christian. Soon after his conversion, Eckerd noticed that they carried Playboy and Penthouse magazines in his stores. In a conversation with the president of his company, he ordered that the magazines be removed from the stores. The corporate president protested, "We earn $3 million in profits off these magazines." In one day, the two magazines were pulled from 1700 stores.When asked about the decision, Eckerd replied, "The Lord wouldn't let me off the hook." Most of us aren't involved in $3 million decisions. -February 3, 2008 Adult Faith Connections-Word action
